Bland Soup

For a big family reunion, Mrs. Mardee decided to cook up a large potful of homemade chicken soup. She followed the recipe her grandmother had typed out for her but was disappointed with the bland result. Taking another look at the recipe card, she noticed a handwritten note on it that seemed to make no sense: SNOINO XIS — NOISSIWO. Or did it? Can you figure out what went wrong?
