Forgotten Illustrations 2

Here's one more illustration to go with the pair I featured previously. It appeared on the cover of a three-section insert the Oakland Tribune published at the end of the year.

The view is looking down from Oakland toward he newly completed Bay Bridge that leads to San Francisco. The red bridge in the sunrise is the Golden Gate Bridge.

The illustration is by Paul A. Schmitt, a painter, illustrator, and teacher who lived most of his life in and around Oakland, California (1893-1983).


Art note: Seems like the family might have been better placed to the left, instead of behind the fountain. But then again, I kind of like the anti-composition of them not being in a comfortable spot.
