Outsiders

The last names of two famous "outsiders" can be found in the photos below, one name per photo. Here's how:

1. What do you see in the photos? The answer for the left photo is one word; the answer for the right photo is a two-word phrase.

2. Remove a continuous string of interior letters from the word, then push the outsides together to create a person's name. Do likewise with the two-word phrase, ignoring the space between the words.

For example, if there was a photo of a DEPOSIT SLIP, you could remove the letters OSIT SLI to create DEPP.
Hint: The two "outsiders" share a connection.
