ASSIGNMENT: What do you do with two vintage gear shift levers and a pair of thumb screws from a road bicycle that's decades past its prime?
SOLUTION: Go to the Home Depot and buy a small length of zinc-plated chain and a 1-inch hex coupling nut. Put the coupling nut through the shift levers and secure them in place by screwing a thumb screw on either side of the nut. Attach 24" of zinc chain to the thumb screws and—voilá—you've got a necklace to give to your daughter.
